The race for Kevin Love continues to stay heated as the Minnesota Timberwolves weigh their options from their many suitors: Bulls, Cavaliers, Celtics, Knicks and the Warriors. As new reports keep coming, the Warriors continue to stand pat and refuse adding their starting shooting guard Klay Thompson in any trade offers. This has helped Thompson stay confident with the Warriors front office and Coach Kerr.

Year after year, Thompson has become more consistent and his scoring continues to rise. In his third season, he became a reliable scorer averaging two points more per contest (18.4 PPG) while shooting a better percentage. Jerry Colangelo and the selection panel have taken notice and invited Thompson along with sharpshooting point guard Stephen Curry to compete for a spot on the National Team. While preparing for the US Men’s National Team in Las Vegas, both guards in the Warriors’ backcourt don’t believe Thompson will be traded. According to Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports, Thompson replied with:
“We got a good core. I feel we have one of the better backcourts in the league,” Thompson, referring to his backcourt mate Stephen Curry, told Yahoo Sports on Sunday.
“I feel like we have a team that can do big things. Health is going to be huge, but I feel like we can make big strides this year.
“The fact that I haven’t been traded yet makes me feel comfortable. That speaks for itself.”
Curry is glad the Warriors’ front office continues to believe in Klay:
“Every year there is some rumor in play and teams are trying to make a power move,” Curry said. “But they’ve made a decision, at least it seems like they have, that Klay is an investment they don’t want to give up. That speaks volumes to what he has been able to do in his career and his potential. I’m happy that he’s my backcourt mate.”
Thompson has had experience with training with the Men’s National Team before. In 2012, he was chosen to play for the USA Select Team which basically trains and plays against the National Team. At only 23 years old, Thompson is seen as a very valuable asset who strays away from trouble, hustles, defends, and shoots well. At this point, both guards will have to play exceptionally well to make the squad together.
With the regular season practically three months away, the Warriors’ look to put their short playoff runs behind them. They have had a semi-productive off-season adding veteran point guard Shaun Livingston and bringing back Brandon Rush to help fill needs. The front office still believes Thompson and Curry are their main components to winning a championship.
