Houston Rockets 97 Final

Recap | Box Score

106 Golden State Warriors
David Lee, PF 43 MIN | 7-12 FG | 1-1 FT | 13 REB | 6 AST | 15 PTS | +14 Lee started out the game dominating the boards but then shied away from the backboards as the game progressed. He finished with a good total but still had the look early on of a player headed for a 20-rebound night. Nonetheless, he was a good playmaker and terrific finisher as usual.
Dorell Wright, SF 18 MIN | 3-4 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 0 AST | 8 PTS | -7 Dorell only played 16 minutes and failed to show much activity on defense and on the boards. His minutes went to bench players that were more productive.
Andris Biedrins, C 11 MIN | 0-0 FG | 0-0 FT | 2 REB | 0 AST | 0 PTS | -10 Andris Biedrins goes to bed at night and when he wakes up in the mornings, he wakes up with four fouls. But as Nick Flynt of Clipperblog pointed out, at least he wakes up with great hair. That was the Latvian center’s night in a nutshell.
Monta Ellis, SG 41 MIN | 13-23 FG | 6-9 FT | 5 REB | 7 AST | 33 PTS | +10 Instead of relying on isolation basketball to get his points, Monta accepted screens off the ball to get himself open for jumpers at the top of the key. He still got ample opportunities to serve as a playmaker but he was a scorer first and an efficient one as well.
Stephen Curry, PG 34 MIN | 5-14 FG | 1-1 FT | 0 REB | 5 AST | 14 PTS | +4 Stephen Curry was below average in terms of shooting the ball but he played like the point guard that many think he is. Instead of deferring to Monta, he ran the offense and fed his backcourt partner for a few uncontested jumpers coming off screens and also hit Lee a few times right at the basket.

Three Things We Saw

  1. The Warriors did a horrible job of protecting the ball early on and it looked like it might prove to be their undoing, but they were able to correct the issue in the second half.
  2. The Dubs made a strategic change early in the third quarter when Biedrins picked up his fourth foul. Instead of bringing in Udoh, they downsized and brought in Brandon Rush to stretch the court. Curry immediately went to the pick-and-roll and found Lee for some easy looks at the basket with the Rockets scrambling to remain close to 3-point shooters.
  3. Although the Rockets put on an impressive 3-point shooting display early on, The Warriors stole the show as bench players came in and drilled long range shots fairly easily. The Warriors finished the night by making 13-of-24 shots from downtown.
