Team USA might have had numerous close games on their way to a gold medal, but nobody can complain about the end result.

Team USA won their third straight gold medal with a commanding win against Team Serbia 96-66.

It was a smoother game for Team USA than their previous matchup against Team Serbia during the group stage.

On August 12, Team USA barely escaped their contest with Team Serbia, winning just 94-91. During that game, Team Serbia missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer that would have sent the game to overtime.

This gold medal win makes it three for three for Mike Krzyzewski in Olympic attempts as head coach of this squad.

He will step down from his position as head coach of Team USA to be replaced by San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich.

Kevin Durant lead Team USA in scoring with 30 points, and Carmelo Anthony passed David Robinson on the all time rebounding list for Team USA during Olympic play.

Anthony announced his retirement from international competition after the game. He now is the most decorated USA basketball player of all time.

During the course of this tournament, Team USA beat their opponents by an average margin of 21.4 points per game.

In the consolation game for the bronze medal that was played beforehand, Team Spain narrowly defeated Team Australia 89-88.

The Warriors’ trio of Durant, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green will now move on to their next goal of winning an NBA championship this season for the Warriors.
