Fighting through adversity that sounds hilariously overblown in hindsight, Team USA secured its third straight gold medal by beating Team Serbia by a commanding score of 96-66.

After anxiety that followed a handful of close wins, it was a fitting end that this team capped off their journey for a gold medal with a resounding 30 point win.

It started off competitively, with USA winning just 19-15 after the first quarter, but by halftime, they had a 52-29 lead.

During the course of the game, USA was winning by as many as 41 points, illustrating how dominant of a performance they’re capable of exhibiting.

This was the final game for Mike Krzyzewski as head coach of USA Basketball, a position he has held since 2005.

Under Krzyzewski, Team USA went three for three in its gold medal opportunities at Olympic games.

San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich has big shoes to fill, as he has been named as Krzyzewski’s successor as head coach of Team USA.

Carmelo Anthony won his 4th medal and 3rd gold medal, becoming the most decorated male USA basketball player in the history of the team.

During this gold medal game, Anthony passed David Robinson on the all time rebounding list for Team USA. Anthony had previously become the all time points leader for Team USA during this tournament.

Kevin Durant scored 30 points in this game, which equaled the total that he scored in Team USA’s last gold medal match in 2012.

Klay Thompson scored 12 points, while Draymond Green scored 2 points. The Warriors’ trio can now start their quest for an NBA championship with the affirmation of gold medals as a testament to their cohesion.

10 out of the 12 members of this USA squad were first time Olympians, but they found ways to win the close games and ultimately assert their dominance over the rest of the field.

Team USA has now won 76 straight games, which stands as an all time record for consecutive wins by this program.

Team USA still managed to beat their opponents by an average of 22.5 points this tournament despite the close wins they had to endure.

In terms of legacy, the 1992 Dream Team might remain as the epitome of ascendent performance at an Olympics, but this 2016 squad certainly adds to the rich history of USA basketball by securing yet another gold medal. Congratulations to all involved!
