In a move that has been expected for a few days now, the Warriors have re-signed F Brandon Rush to a two year deal worth $8 million, with the second year being a player option.
The contract is exactly the same as the one the Warriors gave Carl Landry just yesterday.
In his breakout year with the Warriors, Rush averaged 9.8 PPG, 3.9 RPG, 1.4 APG, with a .452 3p% (good for sixth in the NBA) and .501 FG% in 26.4 MPG.
More than anything, Rush brought some stability to an otherwise weary Warriors bench. While Rush saw increased minutes late in the season due to tanki…injuries, his contributions coming off the bench proved vital to the depleted Warriors reserves. Defensively, Rush was especially impressive (58 blocks), giving the Warriors a solid defender that is always welcome to the usual defensive-lacking squad.
While Rush worked out for the Lakers two weeks ago, the Lakers never made an offer, allowing the Warriors to re-sign Rush without having to match an offer sheet. Rush ends up with $4 million a year, just slightly below the mid-level. The Warriors have yet to go over the luxury tax either.
The signing of Rush concludes a busy off-season for the Warriors: Jarrett Jack, Harrison Barnes, Draymond Green, Festus Ezeli, Kent Bazemore and Carl Landry are all new players heading into next season. The re-signing of Rush gives the Warriors a very formidable bench and also adds another SF to the Jefferson-Barnes mix. Barnes has long been expected to start, but assuredly will have to earn his starting spot over the veterans.
GSW will certainly be a team to watch. they made some very good off season moves. Might I say they may be a darkhorse to make the playoffs.
