The Golden State Warriors currently sit at 58-6 on the season, and are effectively one game ahead of the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls’ pace for the single-season record for wins by a team. After 64 games games in 95-96, the Bulls were 57-7. In their 65th game, they won at Philadelphia while playing without Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman.

As it currently stands, the Warriors are on pace to finish the season with a 74-8 record. It’d be one of the most incredible seasons in sports history, and one that people would talk about through the annals of time so long as Golden State actually went on to win a championship in June of this year.

Up next for Golden State is the Phoenix Suns, a team that is just 5-32 since starting the season 12-16. Phoenix has dealt with a myriad of injuries this year, namely missing guards Eric Bledsoe and Brandon Knight for a considerable amount of time. Knight has recently returned, though. Still, they do pose some threat and should not be taken lightly.

The major road blocks to the Warriors finishing the season with a record-breaking campaign appear to be three matchups with the San Antonio Spurs, one with the Los Angeles Clippers, and a second night of a back-to-back against Utah after a nationally televised game against Washington.

While there are some hurdles in the team’s way, it does appear that they will have a fantastic shot of setting the new record when they go into the final week of the season with games against the Spurs and Grizzlies twice. We’ll see what unfolds, but it’s looking good so far.
