NBA: Golden State Warriors at Denver Nuggets

In his first season, Steve Kerr started from the bottom and coached the Summer League to gain experience. His commitment paid off as the first year coach got the Warriors over the hump and claimed their first championship in 40 years. This Summer, Kerr allowed Luke Walton to run the team as Kerr relaxed after the long 82 game regular season plus the post season.

Relaxing is the main priority for Kerr with his back surgery. According to Monte Poole of CSN Bay Area, Kerr has been dealing with an ailing back and will undergo a back surgery to repair a herniated disk:

The Warriors’ head coach told CSNBayArea.com’s Monte Poole that he will undergo back surgery on Tuesday in Los Angeles to address a herniated disk.

Kerr has been dealing with the issue for a few months.

The herniated disk will keep Kerr out for the Summer but he should be ready for Warriors training camp in late September. As a golf enthusiast, Kerr will have to continue to stay away. Two weeks ago, the American Century Celebrity Golf Classic was held in Tahoe. While Barkley was complaining about Warriors fans, Kerr was taking in the scenery as his back didn’t allow him to participate.

Perhaps the herniated disk came from the weight of his five NBA championships as a player. It won’t get any lighter as his next ring is coming on opening night.
