Ever since the Klay Thompson story was first reported a few days ago, most Warriors fans have been debating whether they would rather keep Thompson in Golden State, or give him up in a deal that would bring Kevin Love to the Warriors. The same discussion seems to be happening inside the Warriors’ organization and they can’t seem to make up their mind.
A blockbuster trade seemed almost certain after it was reported that the Warriors would include Thompson in the deal with the Wolves, but the Warriors keep going back and forth regarding the availability of Thompson. According to Ramona Shelburne and Marc Stein of ESPN.com, Jerry West and Steve Kerr have opposed including Thompson in any type of trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves

Others in the Warriors’ organization are said to be willing to surrender Thompson if it means landing Love, who is widely regarded as the marquee name on this offseason’s trade market. But sources say the talks, which were gathering momentum in advance of the upcoming NBA draft, have stalled.
West’s opinion should weigh heavily on the Warriors’ decision to part with Thompson in order to acquire Love. It also doesn’t hurt that the new head coach Steve Kerr, agrees with West. However, there is some people within the organization that believe the acquisition of Love is worth the cost of losing Thompson. There is definitely an argument to be made for both sides, but this indecision has stalled any talks with the Timberwolves.
The Warriors’ front office must get on the same page and decide quickly. The addition of a player like Love would make the Warriors a very dangerous team next year, but if they don’t act quickly, they run the risk of allowing another team step in and make a deal for Love. However, if they want to keep Thompson and keep building from there, then they must focus on filling other needs on their roster.
This surely won’t be the last we hear about this and it will only get more intense as the NBA Draft approaches. Hopefully the Warriors are able to make a smart deal, which sometimes is no deal at all.
