NBA: Los Angeles Clippers at Golden State Warriors

The Golden State Warriors beat the Los Angeles Clippers convincingly last night. The game was over fast, the score was 65-42 at halftime and the Warriors reached triple digits after three quarters. Part of the reason they were so successful was the play of Draymond Green.

Green finished the game with a career-high 24 points and 8 boards and also showed some range with four made 3-pointers. With David Lee suffering yet another injury, Green can continue to expand his role on this team. Green has fit in well with the starters and according to Jordan Ramirez, coach Steve Kerr is pleased with his play and will keep him with the starting five:

The numbers don’t lie. Not only are the Warriors 4-0 with Green in the starting line-up, but he is averaging 12.5 points and 7.3 rebounds. Green’s impact goes beyond the stat sheet. The Michigan State Spartan brings so much energy to every play and can contribute on both ends of the floor. Green is the type of player that you need to compete for a championship.

Even if Lee is able to fully recover, sticking with Green in the starting five might prove to be a wise choice. Lee can come off the bench and provide that scoring punch in the second unit that the Warriors longed for last season. For now, Green can continue to take advantage of this opportunity and make the best of it. His contract is up this season, so he’s auditioning for a bigger pay check.
