Spencer Hawes

After being one of the most active teams leading up to the draft, the Golden State Warriors have taken a backseat and are letting everything unfold. The Warriors have been linked to a few free agents, but not much past that. The Warriors could very likely be waiting to pounce on the right deal, but for now we must sit and wait.

The Warriors won’t be able to attract a big name free agent because they simply cannot afford to, but they are still working to improve the squad. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, general manager Bob Meyers met with free agent big man, Spencer Hawes:

The 7-foot-1 center is considered one of the better big men in the league and is coming off a season in which he averaged 13.2 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. At only 26 years old, Hawes still has a lot of basketball to be played and his versatility is what makes him very intriguing.

The Wahsington Husky product has been linked to the Portland Trail Blazers, but the Warriors could also be a realistic possibility. Hawes made $6.5 million last season and could be looking for a figure around that same number. The Warriors have a trade exception they could use and if the Blazers don’t land Hawes, then the Warriors could be one of the favorites to sign him.
