Curry Drafted Dad

1. Signing Stephen Curry to a 4 year, 44 million dollar contract

Wow. That’s the one word that comes into mind when you realize what Stephen Curry’s contract is. He is the 5th highest paid player, on his own team. Bogut, David Lee, Andre Iguodala, and Klay Thompson all make more than Curry.

In November 2012, the Warriors inked Curry to a 4-year, 44 million dollar contract extension. This contract is now easily the biggest bargain in the NBA. Curry at the time was 24 and the Warriors decided to stick with him and his worrisome ankles rather than Monta Ellis. Considering Eric Gordon and Ty Lawson both received $58 and $48 million, Curry’s contract looks even friendlier.

Since then, Curry’s ankles have been fine. He has been mostly injury free and has elevated his game to not only become the best point guard in the league, but a top-five player. He is currently the best player on the best team in the NBA, resulting in tons of MVP consideration making him the favorite 51 games into the 2014-15 NBA season. Fresh off his three-point contest victory, Curry now looks to lead the Warriors into a territory they haven’t been in since the 70s: winning an NBA championship.

Curry will obviously receive a max-contract when his current one is up in a few seasons. Although underpaid in terms of basketball contracts, he signed deals with Under Armour and Express that should keep him smiling until his contract is up.
