NBA: Utah Jazz at Golden State Warriors

After 16 games, the Warriors are 14-2 and sit atop the Pacific Division with a three game lead on the hated Los Angeles Clippers. The Warriors have been playing great team basketball although they’ve struggled against weaker opposition; they still found a way to win.

The Dubs are on a nine game winning streak and they will host the Orlando Magic at Oracle Arena tomorrow to try and make it 10 straight victories. The NBA Power Rankings have remained the same and the Memphis Grizzlies continue to keep pace with the Warriors and have one more win, giving them the best record in the NBA.

It will be interesting to see how these teams fare in the coming weeks and they will finally get a chance to play each other on December 16. The Dubs will travel to Memphis for their first meeting of the season against the Grizzlies.

Most of the major sports media outlets released their weekly power rankings and we brought them all together to see where the Warriors land:

Thoughts:

ESPN is very impressed with this Warriors team and who can blame them. The Dubs just went 5-0 in their road trip and they finally return home to face the Magic on Tuesday. The Warriors lead the NBA in field goal percentage and are also the top team in holding the opposition to a low FG %. Can’t get any better than that.

Thoughts:

Yahoo is still high on the Grizzlies and they do have the best record in the NBA, but that’s because they’ve played one more game than the Warriors. The Grizzlies and Warriors both have two losses this season, but the Grizzlies have 15 wins, so the race at the top is extremely close.

The Grizzlies will host the Spurs on Friday, which will be a good measuring stick for Memphis. This will be the first time they meet the defending champions this season, so the Warriors might be able to finally claim the number one spot with Yahoo after this week.

Thoughts

Sports Illustrated keeps the Warriors at number one, but the Grizzlies keep climbing. Steve Kerr has been impressive to start the season. One can only imagine what he will be able to do after a full season under his belt, but for now he is doing a tremendous job.  This team is looking to advance past the first round and reach their aspirations of playing in June later this season.
