Couldn’t go too long without talking about Kevin Love, but for those hoping the Warriors would re-enter the conversation of acquiring him, this might not be the type of news they want to hear. The Warriors were once the team who were favored to land the All-Star big man, but that opportunity might be long gone.
The Cleveland Cavaliers emerged as a leader for Love when they decided to include number one overall pick Andrew Wiggins in the deal. The Chicago Bulls attempted to lure Minnesota with Taj Gibson and Doug McDermott, but the T-Wolves weren’t interested. According to Marc Stein and Brian Windhorst of ESPN, the Cavs are reportedly the only team in the running for Love and a deal is likely inevitable:
After ESPN.com reported last week that the Cavaliers remain the front-runners to acquire Love in a trade co-headlined by No. 1 overall draft pick Andrew Wiggins, sources this week have described the Cavs as the only team currently in contention for Love. Sources say the Chicago Bulls are increasingly pessimistic about their chances of trumping Cleveland’s offer, while the Golden State Warriors remain unwilling to bend on their longstanding refusal to surrender Klay Thompson in a deal for Love.
The Warriors have not changed their stance on Klay Thompson and it will likely stay that way. The Warriors believe that he is too valuable on both ends of the floor and aren’t willing to risk his presence on the defensive end to acquire Love. The Timberwolves would prefer players that could contribute immediately, but Wiggins is a promising prospect and if they have to get rid of Love, might as well add Wiggins in the process.
The Warriors’ fan base has been split on this issue, but with every passing day Love gets closer to Cleveland. The Warriors have a promising roster. A roster to be proud of, but the idea of Love in a Warriors jersey was an exciting thought.
