On October 7th, I was able to attend the first open tryout for the Santa Cruz Warriors at the Golden State Warriors’ practice facility in Oakland. I was very impressed with what I saw there in terms of the talent and dedication the participants displayed despite having a slim chance of getting added to the D-League team’s training camp roster.

However, there was one small disappointment that came with going to the tryout – rapper Lil’ B didn’t show up despite claims that he would.

Fast forward to yesterday, October 14th and there was Lil’ B at Aptos High in Santa Cruz trying out with a bunch of other hopefuls (one of which was a 76 year-old man).

Unfortunately I couldn’t make the trek out to Santa Cruz for the team’s second open tryout. So, you can imagine my disappointment when I heard he had made an appearance and wasn’t able to chat with him. I mean, this is the same guy who challenged Kevin Durant to a game of one-on-one.

I was, however, was able to obtain a statement from general manager Kirk Lacob on Lil’ B’s appearance:

“Lil’ B was one of 68 people who showed up for our open tryouts at Aptos High in Santa Cruz County on Sunday. We love holding open tryouts because we have the opportunity to discover diamonds in the rough, and engage with people who are passionate about sports and willing to put themselves out there to chase their dreams. Lil’ B was a total team player; he was very respectful of our coaching staff and thrilled about being a part of what we – the Warriors – are creating in Santa Cruz. Since he’s from Berkeley, he said he was happy to support Bay Area teams, and we were happy to have him!”

If through some divine miracle he makes the team, I think some sort of Santa Cruz Warriors music video is in order.

Thanks for sharing. I hope he does make the team — and that a music video is created in celebration as well! 🙂

I think bogut will not be able to play again at nearly top level. They just wasted a trade again.
