Scope the Opposition: Mavs Outsider.

Preview: The Golden State Warriors (12-10) have returned from a three-game road trip and will find two Texas teams waiting for them at Oracle Arena. At the end of the week, Dwight Howard and his Houston Rockets (15-7) will be in town for what promises to be an entertaining matchup.

Prior to the contest against the Rockets though, the Dubs host the Dallas Mavericks (13-9) tonight. The Mavs are in the midst of a tough four-game road trip that has been a success so far. Golden State is the final stop, but Dirk Nowitzki and company captured back-to-back wins over the New Orleans Pelicans (9-10) and Portland Trail Blazers (18-4) before falling to the Sacramento Kings (6-13) two nights ago.

Nowitzki has been a catalyst for Dallas as of late despite playing what amounts to being a low amount of minutes for a player of his caliber (32.5 minutes per game). In his last five games, he is averaging 23.4 points per game on 52.8 percent shooting from the field and 47.1 percent from 3-point land.

On the flip side, the Warriors are coming off a loss at the hands of the Charlotte Bobcats (10-11) and have been a little uneven so far this season. Dubs fans might want to panic and practically abandon ship, but that would not be prudent given the circumstances.

Golden State has played 14 road games this season versus eight contests at home. They have managed to remain competitive nonetheless thanks in large part to Stephen Curry. In his last five games, the sharpshooter is averaging 30 points and 9.8 assists on 47.5 percent field goal shooting and 37.2 percent 3-point shooting.

Both teams met earlier in the season and Dallas was victorious in a closely contested game. Nowitzki and Curry both played up to their talents and helped carry their respective offenses. Monta Ellis had a tough shooting night but contributed with 10 assists.

It will be interesting to see if the Mavericks share the wealth once again against the Warriors tonight. They had 27 assists on November 27th against Golden State and that prevented the road team from focusing exclusively on the German superstar.
