Congratulations to the Golden State Warriors fans, your Warriors are the 2014-15 NBA champions. As a team, they earned 67 wins in the 82 game regular season and grabbed another 16 wins in 21 postseason games for an accumulated total of 103 games played. The amount of games are a badge of honor. The depth of the season is a sign of success.

For the first time in 40 years, the Warriors will bring the Larry O’Brien trophy home to the Bay Area. Led by the league’s MVP, Stephen Curry’s impressive and exciting play has kept fans on the edge of their seats all year long. Although he was great, this wasn’t an individual effort.

From Andre Iguodala accepting a bench role to the unlikely emergence of Shaun Livingston in the playoffs, the veterans were able to give solid minutes off the bench, something this team lacked last year. First year coach, Steve Kerr came in with a team with no real expectations. Of course a championship was the goal but it seemed so unlikely with all the powerhouse teams in the league. With the former head coach, Mark Jackson, the Warriors were happy to see success building but they ended with short playoff runs. This team didn’t believe in short playoff runs but a showed a champion sized appetite. From the start of the regular season, this squad was determined to show they were different.

The Journey:

First, the Warriors were faced with Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans. Although it wasn’t as easy as it sounded, the Warriors were able to sweep. Don’t forget the Warriors were down 20 points and came back solely in the fourth.

Next, the Memphis Grizzlies came to town. As a team with two legitimate big men, this team gave the Dubs trouble. Going down 2-1 the team faced adversity, came together, and overcame the tough Grizzlies by winning the next three games.

Then came the Houston Rockets. The runner up for the MVP (which rightfully went to Steph), wanted to prove something. Too bad, the Warriors were too deep to mess with and put away the Rockets at 4-1 proving the Beard and Dwight Howard were no match for the prideful Warriors.

The biggest and largest stage came and the matchup was what fans had hoped for. LeBron James returned and led the hometown Cleveland Cavaliers to the promise land. Unfortunately for him, it was to face our Golden State Warriors. Like the Memphis series, the Warriors won Game 1 and lost Games 2 and 3 to face a heart pounding deficit. The team made a change by inserting Andre Iguodala and forced the Cavs to play small. That was the difference maker. In a cake walk in the Eastern Conference, injuries proved too much to handle as James was left to fend for himself.

The Warriors were just too good, too fast, too smart, and most importantly, too deep to handle. Being so great offensively led the rest of the league to classify the Dubs as an offensive team who can’t play defense. Wrong, the Warriors led in a bunch of offensive categories. This team was complete. They competed on both end, played hard, and played for one another. That’s what champion teams are made of.
