Another day, another trade rumor involving Anthony Randolph.  The latest being the  Warriors and Timberwolves engaging in conversations about a potential deal involving Randolph. The Warriors must really not like Anthony Randolph.  I mean after all why should the Warriors want to keep a potential All-Star PF on their roster, its blasphemous, players with Randolph’s abilities are a dime-a-dozen and are easily replaceable, right?

Well not quite…

Since Anthony Randolph’s rookie season he’s been the subject of trade rumors all the while maintaining his love for the Warriors and the Bay Area as he wants to be here to help turn the woeful Warriors into a playoff team.

Randolph is already hard at work this off-season as he’s put on close to 20lbs. since the end of the season to get him up to 230lbs.  Randolph is on heavy carb diet with the goal being to come into camp at a chiseled 240lbs.  If Randolph can maintain his athleticism and agility while adding the additional weight it can mean great things for Randolph and the team.

Which brings us to why in the world would the Warriors be looking to move Randolph this off-season especially to a team with limited assets such as the Timberwolves.  Randolph is the kind of chip which can net you an All-Star player in return such as Chris Bosh or Amare Stoudemire if you’re hellbent on moving him.

Trading Randolph for potentially Kevin Love or Al Jefferson is exactly the kind of move the Warriors shouldn’t make.  Al Jefferson is a great low-post player however, he struggles defensively, doesn’t pass the ball and can be considered damaged goods.  Not to mention he has $42 million coming his way for the next 3 seasons.  His teammate, Kevin Love is also not a good fit here in Golden State because other than the ability to rebound the ball he doesn’t bring the Warriors much. Love can throw an excellent outlet pass, great, we get it.  Can he play defense? No. Can he be a low-post presence? No.

The Warriors in particular Larry Riley and Robert Rowell need to not do anything dramatic on their way out.  Sometimes the best move is to not make a move and Warrior fans better hope that’s the case in regards to Anthony Randolph.

Randolph’s situation is similar to Jeramine O’Neal’s.
O’Neal really didn’t do much his first few years in the league when he was with Portland and he developed into a good player when he went to the Pacers. A lot of it had to do with lack of maturity his first few years. Randolph has the potential to put up numbers like O’Neal did, but a bit of maturation may be needed first.

He needs more playing time to develop so what if he makes mistakes thats what young players do and with such a crappy season this year its unexcusable how little he played, terrible coaching on that part. I agree with teaching him a lesson if he acts out of line or immature but give the guy some playing time if hes actually trying to improve his additude. daaaang haha

AR will be 21 in July, still so young . He has not had a full season of consistent playing time. In evaluating his loads of potential, I think giving him 2-3 seasons from right now would give enought time to make a judgement on his future. These types of ‘potential’ players come into the league young and immature and take longer to develop…especially on such an awful team. Don’t trade AR, give him time to flourish and evaluate at age 24 if he’s All-Star calliber (that’s the decision that was made when they drafted him).

I love AR, but was afraid he was gonna be the next Tyrus Thomas….but I see him fitting the build of a Josh Smith now. It took J Smoove a couple of seasons to refine his game, and even now he has no post up game, but he’s an athletic freak who is a defensive presence and an offensive nightmare on the fastbreak. Randolph already has a bit more passing ability and a decent elbow jumper…and remember he’s only TWENTY! This kid plays with heart everytime he steps on the floor…he’s a warriors through and through and ALSO has the work ethic of an Anthony Morrow…these guys were in the gym together like crazy before Summer League. Give the youngster a healthy season under a new regime before we let ANOTHER good player go.

    DeuelWarrior,
The Hou Rockets GM has long wanted Randolph.

I’ve read a lot of comments from both teams’ fans and it seems like both groups overvalue their own players. I’m sorry, but Randolph is not a great player. Sure, he has great potential physically, but how is that different from Stromile Swift or Tyrus Thomas? After 2-3 years in the league, potential becomes less of a reason to hold onto someone. Although Love is less athletic than Randolph (and the reason we would be looking him), has already been more productive and averaged a double-double in the league. With that said, T-Wolves fans don’t want to include the #4 pick because Cousins is more valuable and has more potential than either of these guys. I guess we’ll see what happens, but everyone sees their own players through rose-colored glasses (us included) and it’s clear that’s what’s happening here.

Dear Lord, please do not allow the W’s current front office to make such risky trades, when in all likelihood, the W’s current front office will be known as the W’s former front office in the near future. Thank you and amen.

Not to mention.. now with Curry in full swing with confidence. It could be deadly to see him, Randolph, Ellis, Morrow/Azibuke, Beidrins/Turiaf in there at the same time. If we can get cousins that would just make it one well rounded young roster.

If we wanted a Kevin Love, we would have kept a Rob Kurz. I agree Randolph is too good now, and has to much potential to let him go. It was not but a year ago that he was asked to the National Team summer camp due to his skills and abilities. He is a gold mine and we just need to tap into it. He has worked hard every summer to get better. It is not every day you can find his talent and his work ethic, specially for someone so under the radar to the rest of the league.
