Leading up to their matchup against Team Argentina, Team USA was facing a lot of questions regarding their status in this tournament.

They were undefeated in group play, but their last few wins had come in very close games, and for a team accustomed to blowing out opponents, it was a bit alarming.

Those worries sound very premature in hindsight, though. Team USA defeated Team Argentina by a commanding score of 105-78 to advance out of the quarterfinals.

Kevin Durant lead the team with 27 points, and during the game passed Michael Jordan for 4th all time on the Team USA scoring list.

Team USA will play Team Spain in the semifinals. These two teams have met each of the past two Olympic games, but each encounter took place in the gold medal game.

This semifinal game is earlier than these two squads are accustomed to playing one another, but there’s still a lot on the line.

A chance to win a gold medal is dependent on escaping the semifinals, and Team USA wants to keep their hopes of a third straight gold medal alive.

Team Spain has won back-to-back silver medals, and despite starting off 0-2 this tournament and being without Marc Gasol, they’ve found a way to ensure they’ll be playing for at least the bronze medal.

Team USA asserted itself in the quarterfinals, and reminded everyone that there’s a reason they’re the favorites to win this tournament.
