The Warriors are attempting to move across the bay to San Francisco, but their plan for a new arena is being held up in a legal dispute.
A judge recently ruled that environmental effects of the new stadium were studied and found to not be in violation of any codes, but opponents of the arena proposal are now appealing that decision.
They are claiming that the environmental studies being conducted are inadequate, and other concerns of the proposal have involved traffic in the area impeding access to a nearby hospital.
A former near-Warrior also is announcing his retirement. Amare Stoudemire had a great career as an explosive big man in this league, and he was very nearly traded to the Warriors in 2009.
The Warriors and Suns were in deep discussions to send the number 7 overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft along with Anthony Randolph to Phoenix for Stoudemire.
Don Nelson was enamored with Stephen Curry, though, and the organization ultimately decided against the trade when it became clear that Curry was going to be available at number 7.
Stoudemire was also due to be a free agent that next offseason, and there was no guarantee that the Warriors would have been able to re-sign him.
The Curry pick can be pinpointed as the moment that this long suffering team’s fortunes began to shift. Had they acquired Stoudemire, it’s safe to say that things would be drastically different around here.
