Warriors GM Bob Myers has put together fantastic rosters over the past few seasons. What he was able to construct this offseason might prove to be his most impressive feat yet, though.
A generational talent like Kevin Durant was added to a lineup that already features star players Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green.
Add in valuable complementary players like Andre Iguodala, Zaza Pachulia, Shaun Livingston, and David West into that mix, and this team has the makings of a potentially dominant squad.
Myers acknowledged that it may take some time for the pieces to mesh together properly, though. Talent is important, but chemistry can prove to be the difference between winning a championship and falling short.
Myers pointed out that the championship roster from 2015 stayed largely in tact that following offseason, so the team chemistry was already impeccable by the time training camp started.
There was never any awkward acclimation period amongst players who weren’t used to playing with one another.
That’s not really the case in 2016, though. Although the collective additions seem to at least on paper represent a net gain in terms of talent and production compared to the departures, there are numerous new players expected to play big roles on the team.
Myers cautions that it might take a while to work some of the kinks out because of that. The Miami Heat had similar issues when LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh first starting playing with each other, but that experiment ended successfully. There’s no reason to belief that this Warriors team won’t ultimately be successful as well.
