The Golden State Warriors won a thriller last night (you can find the grades/reactions here, courtesy of Jordan Ramirez) against the Dallas Mavericks thanks in large part to Stephen Curry’s brilliance down the stretch of a close contest. The Dubs came out with a victory and now have a bit of a home stretch coming up that might allow them to build some momentum.
Mind you, before we get caught up in the immediate future, let’s focus on the team’s present. What’s happening with the Warriors?
- Over at Sheridan Hoops, James Park has the juicy details involving the Warriors’ win versus Dallas last night: Stephen Curry hit the game-winning shot and Oracle Arena went wild! But should the Warriors have been whistled for a technical foul last night? Well, it would appear that they should. Nemanja Nedovic was on the court celebrating with Curry, which is cool if the opposing team calls timeout. The Mavericks did not.
- Lost in the hoopla of Stephen Curry’s late jumper to win the game for the Golden State Warriors last night is the fact that Draymond Green made a huge shot to give the Dubs the lead late in the fourth quarter. Give him his due.
- Speaking of Draymond Green, Marcus Thompson II makes the case that the Michigan State product should see more time on the court over at the San Jose Mercury News.
- A few years ago I went to City of Brotherly Love to catch a playoff game between the Philadelphia 76ers and Miami Heat. I was astounded by the amount of vitriol that was directed at Andre Iguodala at the time, who you know, happened to play for the home team. In a terrific piece over at Grantland, Jonathan Abrams tackled the crux of this dynamic: Iggy was too much of a Scottie Pippen as opposed to a Michael Jordan or Allen Iverson. Terrific read.
- The NBA All-Star Game will take place on February 16th in New Orleans and well, we might as well get an idea of the players that will participate in the mid-season classic. Stephen Curry and David Lee are probably underdogs to start, but they have received a substantial amount of votes per NBA.com.
- Golden State needs Monta Ellis…wait what?! Who could utter such a preposterous statement? Over at the San Jose Mercury News, Marcus Thompson II makes a compelling case that Ellis would thrive with the 2013-14 Warriors if he came off the bench. The kicker in all this? He’s actually right.
- Does anyone realize that David Lee is still good? Ethan Sherwood Strauss addresses this question over at ESPN.com and after reading the piece, I could not help but draw parallels between Lee and Pau Gasol. Both play with a guard that commands the offense and for the most part, they receive all of the praise and none of the blame. Fascinating to say the least.
- In a fantastic interview with Stephen Curry over at ESPN.com, Sam Alipour asked Stephen Curry this question: “So let’s say there are five seconds left in the game, one shot to win it all, and you get to draw up the final play in some Space Jam–type world. On the floor is Ray Allen, Jordan, Kobe, Reggie Miller and you. Who’s your No. 1 option?”
