The NBA Summer League is a great opportunity for players to make a name for themselves and potentially make an NBA roster. The Golden State Warriors had a few players who showed promise and could earn a spot on the team . Justin Holiday and Aaron Craft were two players who were looking to impress the Warriors and the rest of the NBA while playing for the Warriors in Las Vegas.
With the injury to Nemanja Nedovic, the Warriors could use another point guard in the depth chart. According to Diamond Leung of the San Jose Mercury News, the Warriors have signed point guard Aaron Craft to a one year deal:
Undrafted point guard Aaron Craft signed a one-year, partially guaranteed contract with the Warriors on Wednesday after playing for their NBA Summer League team, according to agent Lance Young.
Craft, 23, will join the Warriors at training camp, as his signing came after the Warriors learned reserve point guard Nemanja Nedovic suffered a foot injury while training for the Serbian national team in preparation for the FIBA World Cup.
Craft showed he could compete with some of the best young players at the NBA Summer League. Head coach Steve Kerr praised Craft for his basketball IQ and competitive spirit, but more importantly he was able to get quality minutes while playing behind Nedovic. His performance was impressive enough to earn a one year deal and although it’s partially guaranteed, Craft can now enter Warriors’ camp confident he’ll be able to compete for a roster spot.
Craft’s signing comes after Nedovic suffered a stress fracture on his right foot while playing in an exhibition game with the Serbian National team. No word on how long Nedovic will be sidelined, but it should be an interesting battle in training camp. Craft’s defensive prowess and ability to penetrate the paint are very appealing qualities, but his jumper is one part of his game that could use some improvement.
