Draymond Green’s press conference on Thursday morning was exactly what you would have expected it to be.

The latest inked Warrior was all smiles with his mother having the same expression in the front row. Green will remain in the Bay Area much to the delight of the fan base. The feeling is certainly mutual.

Jim Barnett started the presser and used his Warrior charm to introduce the power forward, his family members, and friends. BJ Armstrong was one of the notable names amongst that crowd.

Harrison Barnes, Festus Ezeli, Draymond Green, Bob MyersThe stage was then set for Executive of the Year, Bob Myers. The hoops mastermind spoke honest words about Green and it was refreshing to hear yet again. Myers said winning is the first thing that he thinks of when he hears Draymond Green. The Larry O’Brien trophy is a prime example.

Green thanked God and his family prior to answering a question. He took the moment to be appreciative of the ones closest to him throughout his rugged underdog journey, which is always great to see in sports no mater how many times it’s done.

He took a page out of Steph Curry’s book and thanked the front office, the public relations department, and the people who work at the Warriors Headquarter. He noted that none of this would be possible if it wasn’t for the assistance they provided during the grueling course of the NBA year.

Green was candid. He made certain faces when asked about the DeAndre Jordan situation and called it “fun to watch.” The Warriors are definitely happy that their negotiation with Green was the opposite. Everything went smooth.

The outspoken Michigan State product knew he was going to stay in the Bay all along. He didn’t have a specific moment during the season that confirmed it. It was in his heart the whole time.

“I knew early on that this was the place I wanted to be, this is where I wanted to be. You don’t get a group of guys like this,” Green said. The championship validated it at the end of the year.

His teammates have already ribbed him about his new contract. Their group texts include conversations about team dinners already on Green’s tab. The team is hungry for more titles, too. Draymond-Green

Green said that one title isn’t enough. This new contract won’t change the way that he plays, either. His hustle will always be there. He gave Tom Izzo credit during the presser. He talked about how Izzo taught him how to become a man before becoming a basketball player. Izzo told Green that if he ever wanted to be in the NBA, he’d have to work harder than anyone else.

When backing up David Lee, Green came into games with a mindset of playing 40 minutes despite only getting half of that. When Lee was hurt, Green took advantage of that opportunity and solidified himself as the starting power forward of the NBA Champs.

The result? A generous contract.

“You cannot overstate how important Draymond Green was to helping our team win an NBA Championship last season,” Bob Myers said. “And we are thrilled that he decided to re-sign with us.”

The 25 year old cracked jokes about Kyrie Irving’s comments. Irving stated that if the Cavaliers were healthy, they would have beaten the Warriors. Green’s response was simple: “If I was 6’11, I’d be Anthony Davis.”

Many men have put on a Golden State Warriors jersey during the tenure of this historic franchise, but only a few have lived up to the name on the front of it. Draymond Green has and will for at least the next five years. Brace yourselves, Dray is finally paid.
