GSW Arena Top View

When the Warriors released images of their new arena that is slated to be built over the next few years, they quickly realized they had made a mistake. The initial design of the arena looked like a toilet and it was obvious, which is why it garnered national headlines and ultimately went viral.

Given the negative feed back and mockery the Warriors received, they decided to re-design the arena. According to Matier and Ross of the SF Gate, the new design eliminated the look of a toilet:

The Golden State Warriors have given their planned Mission Bay arena a design do-over intended to make everyone forget about an earlier set of drawings in which the 18,000-seat venue looked very much like a toilet.

Gone is much of the rectangular viewing deck that, when coupled with the oval arena, gave the overhead view of the place the appearance of a giant toilet seat with the lid down. The deck has been shaved down to about half its old size, dropped about 13 feet below the roof line and given a sweeping curve.

The Warriors got it right this time and there is not even the slightest resemblance to a toilet. The new design is beautiful, it all looks very modern and it promises to be state of the art in every aspect. What really caught my eye was the Warriors logo on the roof, which makes it very unique.

If everything goes as scheduled, the new arena should open its doors for the 2018-19 season. That’s about five years away, but at least we know it won’t look like a toilet anymore.
