The Warriors almost stole Game 3 in the fourth quarter last night and it was partly due to Marreese Speights. He scored six points early in the fourth to give the Warriors some life, but it came at a costly price.

Speights suffered a right calf injury and was forced to leave the game and he was barely getting into a good rhythm. Unfortunately, the Warriors were not able to mount a comeback and now they find themselves down 2-1 to the Memphis Grizzlies.

If that was not bad enough, it looks like the Warriors lost more than Game 3 yesterday. The Warriors announced earlier today that Speights suffered a moderate strain on his right calf and will be re-evaluated in one week:

Warriors reserve forward Marreese Speights has a strained right calf that could keep him out for
the rest of Golden State’s series with the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Warriors said Sunday that Speights had an MRI exam that showed a moderate strain, and the forward will be re-evaluated in one week.

Speights will be out at least a week and it could be more if his calf does not respond well after seven days. The Florida Gator was an unexpected surprise this season. After struggling in his first year with the Warriors, Speights bounced back to become an important piece off the bench.

While Speights slowed down as they year progressed, his scoring off the bench was his best attribute. His ability to spread the floor by knocking down jumpers made the second unit one of the best in the league.

The Warriors will miss Speights, but now it’s time for David Lee to step up. He has not seen any significant minutes in this series, but that is about to change. Can he provide something positive off the bench? The Warriors sure hope so.
