Injuries are a part of the game. Unfortunately, for the Cavaliers the timing is terrible. Irving looked great in Game 1 of the NBA Finals and the Cavs looked like a team who could prevent the Warriors from winning their first title in 40 years.

As basketball fans, we were robbed from potentially watching a thrilling series between two good ball clubs. After watching the first 48 minutes, you could see this series going seven games, but Irving’s injury changed everything.

The Cavs are well aware that most people have written them off. According to Dave McMenamin of ESPN, LeBron James is motivated to prove the doubters wrong:

Added LeBron James: “[I] understand that we were the underdog coming into the series, and with Kyrie being out, people are writing us off. So, I mean, that’s fine. That’s fine. I’m motivated to get our guys ready to go tomorrow [for Game 2], and we will be ready.”

As LeBron mentioned, the Cavs were already the underdogs with a healthy Irving, so now very few people are giving them a puncher’s chance. Before the Finals began LeBron was asked if he felt like the underdog going into this series and laughed it off. Now, there is no doubt the Warriors are the overwhelming favorite.

The Warriors are not paying attention to the media, they still see the Cavs as a legitimate threat and nothing will make them lose focus. At the end of the day the Cavs still have LeBron James, the same guy who scored 44 points in Game 1 and has two game winning shots at Oracle Arena.
