It’s been two weeks since the Golden State Warriors become champions of the NBA once again. The parade already happened. The trip to Las Vegas already happened. Even the NBA Draft already happened.

Traditionally, we would be looking ahead to the free agency period. However, this year the NBA changed things quite a bit and decided to hand out the yearly individual awards at the end of the season. In years prior, awards like the Most Valuable Player and the Sixth Man of the Year would be announced during the playoffs.

The NBA decided to add a little more drama to the announcement and have an entire award show deliver the hardware. All the finalist were asked to attend the show and the NBA would have an impressive list of past NBA players and celebrities present the awards and provide the entertainment. They even got Drake to host the show.

Andre Iguodala and Draymond Green were up for awards, but only one came away with a win. Green was named NBA Defensive Player of the Year, finally coming away with the award after being a finalist for the last couple of years.

Green had already made headlines with his outfit, Drake even questioned his choice during a 1-on-1 interview. The one thing you can’t question is Green’s ability to defend the basketball. Not only is he able to guard all five positions effectively, he is also a cerebral assassin that is able to get in your head and disrupt your game.

During the NBA Draft, 29 other teams were trying to find the next Draymond Green, somebody so versatile and effective defensively. Good luck because Green was a diamond in the rough and will be causing havoc for a long time in this league.
