Draymond Green has been spectacular for the Golden State Warriors this season. He is in the final year of his rookie contract and there has been speculation all season long on where he will play next season.

Green is from Saginaw, Michigan. He attended Michigan State and played under Tom Izzo for four years. Green holds the state of Michigan and particularly the city of Saginaw close to his heart. However, Green has grown fond of Oakland as well. According to Diamond Leung of the Bay Area News Group, Green feels at home in Oakland because it reminds him of Saginaw:

Draymond’s mother, Mary Babers-Green told the Detroit Free Press in May, “The Bay loves Dray, and Dray loves the Bay.”

That’s a positive sign that Green will potentially stay loyal to the Bay Area after this season. Many players would love to play near their hometown, but they are also loyal to the team that originally drafted them in the first place.

Green can flee to the Eastern Conference and get a fresh start. His other choice is to stay with the Warriors and look to build on something truly special in Northern California.

The Detroit Pistons will reportedly offer Green a max contract. Warriors’ General Manager, Bob Myers said that he would do anything it takes to keep Green with Golden State for the long-term. Green has had a significant role in this magical season for the Warriors and with him on board that could be the case for years to come.

This story line is something that the Warriors and their fans will pay close attention to once the offseason begins. Green has bigger things to worry about, like guarding LeBron James in Game 2 of the NBA Finals .
