Regardless of your political affiliation, it’s safe to say that no one ever expected Donald Trump to be President of the United States. Well, it happened and this is the current world we live in.

Since Trump won the election, there has been a clear divide between his supporters and those who oppose him. The day after his inauguration, hundreds of thousands of men and women were part of the Women’s March in order to protest Trump and his presidency.

Some athletes and celebrities have been vocal about not supporting Trump, others have not been as outspoken. Steve Kerr was one of the few coaches in the NBA to publicly criticize President Trump’s executive order, better known as the Muslim Ban.

Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank has recently received a lot of backlash after praising President Trump, calling him a real asset to this country. Steph Curry is the face of Under Armour Basketball, but had been relatively quiet on Trump’s presidency and in politics in general.

That changed today. According to Marcus Thompson of the Bay Area News Group, Curry does not agree with Plank’s assessment of Trump and was very blunt about it:

“I agree with that description,” Curry said, “if you remove the ‘et’” from asset.

Curry didn’t hold back, which was refreshing since he hadn’t said much up to this point. Curry is Under Armour basketball and although they might never reach Nike’s elite status, they’re recent success is all due to Curry’s achievements on the court. If he is not happy about Plank’s praise of Trump, you better believe they will be very aware of it.

Some believe athletes shouldn’t get involved in politics, but to ignore the power of their platform would be irresponsible. Curry is one of the faces of the NBA, he should be able to be a professional basketball player, but still have an opinion. Whether you agree with his opinion or not, you should at least respect it.

For those who support Trump, they might not be big fans of Curry moving forward. However, Curry made the right move and spoke up.
