It was announced today that KNBR 680 and the Warriors have agreed to a multi-year extension that will run through the 2015-2016 NBA season. KNBR will continue to handle all Warriors radio broadcasts during this time.

According to the agreement, KNBR will broadcast all 82 games of each season, expand it’s pre-game show to 30 minutes in length as well as continuing to carry the Warriors Weekly Radio Show and Mark Jackson Show.

Tim Roye will once again be back at the helm, continuing his fantastic run of 17 years broadcasting Warriors games.

The announcement comes one week after 95.7 the Game — KNBR’s FM rival — announced Warriors beat writer Matt Steinmetz and ESPN personality Ric Bucher were joining their daily lineup.

KNBR has been carrying Warriors games for nearly 40 years, and with 95.7 new to the Bay Area media scene, it seems a war is brewing for Warriors supremacy. While KNBR is broadcasting games as well as TV play-by-play man Bob Fitzgerald carrying the 12-3 PM slot, there’s no doubt that 95.7’s new additions of Steinmetz and Bucher will be tough competition for “The Sports Leader.”

KNBR and the Warriors have been such a mainstay, it’s refreshing to see some healthy competition brewing. Many listeners have clamored for an alternative to KNBR and more specifically Fitzgerald, and now there is one. Steinmetz and Bucher began their run at The Game this week, we’ll see if listeners stick with the old or swerve to the new.

Men lie, women lie, numbers don’t.
