Over the last several months, we’ve all seen the headlines of those old time players who have found every little thing to nitpick on against the Golden State Warriors, and especially point guard Stephen Curry. It’s terrible, it’s dumb, and it needs to stop. And, according to Reggie Miller, the old timers need to ’embrace’ Curry.

That’s a big thing for Miller to say, and it could just be one all-time great shooter trying to give respect and love to another all-time great shooter. Either way, you have to give credit where credit is due here. Miller does make some good points, as well, when actually talking about Curry’s impact on the game.

From William Lou at theScore dot com:

“As old time guys and former players, we have to embrace change,” Miller told Charles Curtis of For The Win. “It’s hard for old players to embrace change because whether you played in the ’70s, ’80s, ’90s, (we all had) different rules. Basketball has evolved and it has changed. Change is good and we’ve got to embrace Steph and what he’s doing.”

Miller is not wrong here. Change is good, and you do have to embrace the positive change that has come out of the game in recent history. Curry is part of that recent positive change, so he shouldn’t be belittled and bemoaned, but rather respected by the old timers from the game’s history.

It’s nice to see at least one of the game’s most recognizable faces giving respect where respect is due. Now, only if the others who have talked ill of Curry or the Warriors would actually give them their just due then we could really see some progress being made. Still, that day might never come.

It might not matter what Golden State or Stephen Curry manage to accomplish this season, or even seasons in the future, since the minds of those who came before them are already made up. They don’t need to win their minds, though. They just need to keep winning games. The rest will fall into line after that.
