The Golden State Warriors can now relax and prepare for their Western Conference Semi-Finals matchup against either the Memphis Grizzlies or the Portland Trail Blazers. The Warriors have all this time on their hands because they swept the Pelicans in the opening round, but if it was not for Steph Curry’s heroics in Game 3, this series could still be alive.

Curry once again proved why he is deserving of the MVP award, the man is clutch. The entire country witnessed that amazing shot by Curry, including other professional athletes.

Justin Rose was lucky to be playing in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans this past weekend, so he was able to attend Game 3. Rose witnessed first hand the greatness of Curry and that would eventually help him win the tournament.

According to John Strege of the Golf Digest, Rose used Curry as inspiration after struggling in his round on Saturday:

He took his inspiration from a shooting guard of renown who came through with an assist that won this one for Rose. On Friday night, Rose attended the Warriors-Hornets game in New Orleans, where Curry salvaged an off night shooting with an improbable three-pointer to tie the game at the of regulation.

“Yesterday I felt like I had gone cold in my round,” Rose said. “I started off hot, went cold and Fooch [Mark Fulcher, his caddie] just said, ‘come on, just remember Steph Curry.’ He went cold, but he kept wanting the ball, kept shooting threes, kept believing in himself. That was our mentality. As soon as he said that I had a 12-footer, kept visualizing it going in and I made it. It kind of righted the ship.”

Rose actually got off to a great start on Saturday, but it quickly went downhill. Mark Fulcher, Rose’s caddie had to remind him that he had to play like Curry, although the ball was not going in, he needed to keep shooting and keep wanting the ball.

Watching Curry nail that three from the corner and lead his team to victory left a lasting impression on Rose and that’s what helped him win the Zurich Classic. Rose was clutch himself down the stretch, he hit two birdies in his final two holes.

Golf is such a mental game and all that Rose needed to do was think about Curry and the way he approaches the game of basketball. Don’t be surprised if these two great athletes link up for a round of golf in the near future.
