Splash Brothers vs Kings

Who has the best back court in the NBA? This topic has been a highly debated issue since the season began. The Golden State Warriors make a good case for the best backcourt in the league, but plenty of NBA teams disagree. It’s tough to decide who truly deserves that title, but as the season progresses, it could become more clear.

With the NBA season underway for over a week, the Warriors have already established themselves as one of the stronger teams in the Western Conference. While it may take some more time to cement themselves as the best back court in the NBA, one thing is for sure, the Splash Brothers are currently the highest scoring duo in the association:

  1. Klay Thompson + Steph Curry= 53 ppg
  2. Rudy Gary + DeMarcus Cousins= 48.4 ppg
  3. LeBron James + Kyrie Irving= 45.8 ppg
  4. James Harden + Dwight Howard= 45.7 ppg
  5. Blake Griffin + Jamal Crawford= 45.1 ppg

Steph Curry and Klay Thompson are clearly the top scoring duo and it’s not even close. Gay and Cousins surprisingly come in second on this list at 48.4 points per game, which is still about five points less than Curry and Thompson. LeBron and Irving are the third highest scoring duo, but they probably rank dead last in combined assists. The Warriors play the Rockets on Saturday and they will meet Harden and Howard who are fourth on the list. Blake Griffin rounds out the top five with Jamal Crawford.

The Splash Brothers are not only hitting shots from beyond the arc, they are scoring from everywhere on the court. Thompson is shooting 54 percent and Curry is at 44 percent. Thompson is making half of his three point attempts and Curry has struggled early on from long distance, only making 33 percent of his attempts. Both Splash Brothers are shooting over 90 percent from the free throw line, which means opposing teams can’t send them to the line because it’s an automatic two points.

The season is still early, so this list can very different after 82 games, but it’s not farfetched to think the Splash Brothers will maintain this offensive consistency. Ultimately, it’s all about wins, but this only solidifies their case as the best back court in the league.
