West’s original contract was lined up for three years. After his original tenure, the Warriors weren’t ready to let him walk away from the team. He has been locked up with the Warriors through the 2016-17 NBA season.

West’s voice holds a ton of weight as he was intent on keeping Klay Thompson as a piece of the Warriors moving forward. As the fans may know, Thompson has recently accepted the max extension keeping him with the Dubs for at least 4 seasons.

It may also be important to note that West is also a minority owner of the Warriors. Since accepting the role in 2011, the Warriors future has looked upward. After the shortened lockout season in which team finished 23-43, the franchise looked bright. Casual NBA fans began to take notice of the Warriors when the 2012-13 season led to a post-season birth. The team sent the entire league a message that they were here to compete.

West’s complete role has never been officially announced although many say it’s low stress but he is heavily involved. It proven that he knows what he is doing and the front office believes in his advice to propel the team forward. Currently, the Warriors are poised for another run for the championship but nobody in the franchise should be satisfied until they receive the Larry O’Brien trophy and their championship rings.
