Scope the Opposition: Valley of the Suns.

Preview: For those that have not been paying attention, go check the NBA standings and pay careful attention to the Pacific division (go ahead and check, I shall wait). Anything stand out?

In case it did not, allow me to provide some clarity: The Phoenix Suns (13-9) have the second-best record in the division. Furthermore, they are playing quite possibly better than any other club in the Pacific. Indeed, the Suns have won seven of their past 10 games in the very difficult Western Conference.

Also, Phoenix has registered some signature wins against solid competition. The Suns have defeated the Portland Trail Blazers (20-4) twice as well as the Houston Rockets (16-8).

This explains why the Suns are now open to trading one or more of their picks according to Scott Howard-Cooper of NBA.com:

The Suns, obviously encouraged by a promising start and with several attractive assets at their disposal, are making it known around the league they are open to trading one or more picks in the loaded 2014 draft if they can get an established star capable of making an impact now, NBA.com has learned.

Many expected them to tank this season because the 2014 draft class is being projected as one of the deepest the league has ever seen (Insider). Mind you, things change quickly in the Association.

The tandem of Eric Bledsoe and Goran Dragic has emerged as one of the best backcourt combinations in the NBA. If that was not scary enough as is, they are building chemistry.

The Golden State Warriors (13-11) are the proud owners of arguably the best guard duo in basketball, and that will certainly be tested tonight. It should be a compelling matchup, but more importantly, the winner of tonight’s game will narrow the gap between them and the Los Angeles Clippers (16-9) for the division crown.
