– Walking out of the Coliseum last night, my buddy said we’d win the Pacific Division. And I couldn’t argue. We play absolutely no defense, but here’s no clear-cut division winner here. Something to keep in mind: winning the division means you’re the 3rd seed at the very least. I still think the Lakers are better than we are, but it’s something to keep in mind.

– Disappointed in the number of empty seats last night. Me & 2 friends snuck down to the 15th row at halftime, and had a good 10-20 empty seats around us for the remainder of the game. No one came to claim any of the seats, and we probably could have gotten even closer. I know it’s the Hawks, but it’s Opening Night. Where the hell was everyone?

– I love rooting against Carmelo.

– I didn’t post a column about Dunleavy’s contract because I really don’t want to crap on this team or this season before it even starts, but I still don’t understand it. Other than ballhandling (which is the most overrated part of his game), I can’t think of one way Dunleavy makes us better than Pietrus. If we lose Pietrus because we chose Dunleavy, we’ll regret it.

– Everyone in the Arena had the same reaction when Calbert Cheaney came in: "f******ck"

– I love Biedrins. You love Biedrins. We all love Biedrins. But as soon as he entered the game last night, the guy next to me immediately said, "here comes the hack". And I thought, well maybe this guy just doesn’t know what he’s talking about. This is our #1 draft pick from last year, this is our inside defensive prescence waiting to bust out. Then Biedrins picked up a foul at the scorer’s table on his way into the game, and picked up his second inside of 3 minutes. Just a funny subplot I never picked up on before. Has he always been this foul-happy?

– I really, REALLY don’t like Zaza.

– His contract blows, but why anyone would want to trade D-Fish is beyond me, especially given Baron’s injury history. Fish kept us in the game last night.

– Taft. Surprise of the night. It’s easy to overexaggerate his impact, considering how desperate we are for someone down low, but he was solid last night. I’d be very happy with solid.

– Taft & Miles both got really nice ovations when they entered the game. Good to see people are paying attention. Zarko got a good response, too.

– J-Rich just seems to care more than anyone else on the court. Never in a million years would I have seen this coming. He’s already passed every expectation I had for him.

– Utah is gonna be a bastard of a team this season. They’re good.

– Scott Van Pelt does one hell of a Mel Kiper impersonation.

– Love the new Joe Montana FedEx commercial. Brings a smile to my face every time. Probably my favorite commercial since the FedEx Salt n’ Pepa ad with the guys dancing in their office.

– On a related note, the Niners need to wear those old jerseys full-time. Every time they break them out, it reminds you of how much better they are than the current ones- kind of like The City jerseys.

– Enjoy the final 8 weeks of NFL Primetime, one of only 3 shows I actually look forward to watching each week. Next season, NBC has exclusive rights to all NFL highlights every Sunday. President Bush needs to step in here and right this situation.

That is all.
