Stephen Curry put all his skills on display in New York tonight. The All-Star point guard posted 27 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists in three quarters of action. The other half of the splash brothers, Klay Thompson added 25 points, and the Golden State Warriors stymied the Knicks all night.
Curry’s return to the arena where he put on an outstanding scoring performance was highly anticipated. Granted, he did not come close to matching his 54-point effort, but his contributions in ever facet of the game was simply sensational.
The Splash Brothers connected on give 3-pointers… amazing, right? Quite the contrary, Curry was active on the defensive glass tonight; he had nine defensive rebounds in his third triple-double of the season. The beauty of it all? This jaw-dropping performance came after one of his worst performances of the season where he scored five points on 20 percent shooting in a loss to the Chicago Bulls.
The Knicks’ season storyline is a somber one, but Carmelo Anthony is a constant bright point for them this year. Tonight, he scored 23 points and grabbed 16 rebounds. These amazing stat-lines are something to marvel at, but they come in losses. Woodson’s ball club is on the verge of missing the playoffs in a weak Eastern Conference.
The disappointment and frustration seemed to push Tyson Chandler over the edge tonight. He was ejected in the final frame after receiving his second technical foul when he pushed Marreese Speights.
Curry’s all-around effort tonight gave the Warriors solid control of the game half way through the first period.
The domination started when Steve Blake opened the second period with a 3-pointer and Jermaine O’Neal scored to give the Warriors a 16-point lead.
The Warriors will look to continue their winning ways this Sunday against the Toronto Raptors.
