Indiana's Take On The Trade Print E-mail
Written by Administrator

Warriors fans seem to have very strong feelings on Murphleavy with even the strongest supporters giving up defending the players.  Dunleavy supporters have finally had to give up the mantra of 'Potential' as lil' Dun enters his 5th season without showing any ability to step it up.  Maybe his jersey throwing ejection hissy fit is the height of his career.

So, why does Indiana make this trade?  What are their opinions on their incoming players?

Bird talks about Dunleavy being an effective rebounder.  "If you can't rebound you can't control the boards"  Dunleavy is a 'great' rebounder.  Murphy is a 'good' rebounder, and rebounding is what Ike does.  We have all watched Murphleavy, Murph rebounds when he is the only rebounder, but alongside Biedrins Murph's rebounds have gone down.  Dunleavy is a below average rebounder for his positiion, other than the Clippers game Monday, Dunleavy dissapoints in his rebounding.  Ike gets rebounds but often it is from his own misses in the low post because of his inability to make baskets over larger defenders.  So Larry, what are you thinking?

The Rick Carlisle Show   with commentary from Bird and Rick on the trade.  Good shooter, Dunleavy is a horrible shooter, the myth of Dunleavy as a good shooter is something that i just can't understand.  Dunleavy shot 40% last year from the field and 28% from 3 point land in 68 starts.  Off the bench this year he is significantly better, but many of his baskets come at the end of uncontested games.  Dunleavy is at his best when the game isn't on the line.  Talks about Dunleavy as a Reggie Miller type guy.

Rick Barry on Sirius with Fred Carter on the trade.  Fred thinks  Indiana got the better end of the deal.  Looking at just the numbers, Murphy looks good. Yes, he has pretty numbers.  Rick thinks Murphy playing with the Pacers in a set play half court set will be better for him.  Double  double guy.  No one ever seems to mention that  whoever Murphy is playing against will have more points and more rebounds.  Basketball IQ discussion on Dunleavy again, yes we have all heard that.  His IQ when missing open shots is higher than anyone else in the league.
