The Golden State Warriors were quickly building a reputation of invincibility. After winning last year’s inaugural NBA Summer League Championship and winning 16 games in a row, it seemed like no one could dethrone the champs. Unfortunately, the Los Angeles Lakers didn’t get the memo and ended the Warriors streak in dramatic fashion.

The Warriors started the game off slow and found themselves down early. It took them a few minutes at the beginning of each quarter for them to find a rhythm, which led to a double digit deficit in the fourth quarter. They didn’t wake up until the fourth quarter, but it’s better late than never. Although it was a Summer League game, they showed poise and made it a competitive game. As the game got tighter down the stretch in the fourth quarter, the smaller Cox Pavilion sensed an exciting finish was on the horizon.

After some sloppy play to end the fourth, the game eventually went into overtime tied at 84 a piece. Justin Holiday hit a contested jumper off an Aaron Craft assist, which gave the Warriors a one point lead with 6.1 seconds left. The Lakers brought the ball up the court and Julius Randle missed a highly contested layup attempt, but Jordan Clarkson was able get tip in just in time to beat the buzzard. Aaron Craft played the entire fourth and led the charge with his defense and hustle. Justin Holiday came through with the scoring as he dropped 26 points on 18 attempted shots. Nemanja Nedovic led all players with four assists.

We were able to catch up with Coach Kerr after game and he discussed the nail-biting loss to the Lakers, the chaos that ensued after Holiday hit the shot to put them up by one, and the lack of execution through out the game.
