According to Yahoo! Sports, head coach Mark Jackson has forced the reassignment of assistant coach Brian Scalabrine from the Warriors bench.
Ownership and management have been strong advocates of Scalabrine and his performance on the job, sources told Yahoo Sports. Nevertheless, Warriors officials decided that as long as Jackson is the head coach, he’ll have control of his coaching staff.
It is immediately unclear what kind of a role the Warriors will transition Scalabrine, but management has no intention of letting him leave the organization, sources said.
While this is indeed unusual, that wasn’t the only tidbit of news provided by Adrian Wojnarowski:
Over the past two years, Jackson’s difficulty with managing his coaching staff and creating a functional work environment has developed into one of the issues that threatens his future on the job, league sources said.
This news comes in the middle of a generous five-day off stretch for the team. The Warriors are coming off a 99-90 loss against the shorthanded San Antonio Spurs and currently sit as the sixth seed in the Western Conference (44-27).
They welcome the surging Memphis Grizzlies (42-28) into Oracle Arena on Friday.
