Stephen Curry by the Numbers

With Stephen Curry setting the world on fire this season, now is as good a time as any to have a look at Steph by the numbers this year.

Stephen Curry has made 640 shots from 3-point range in his four seasons in the NBA. The league has obviously changed in last few decades, but have a look at some notable shooters and their career exploits from downtown.

  • Wally Szczerbiak in 14 seasons: 590 3-pointers made.
  • Craig Hodges in 10 seasons: 560 3-pointers made.
  • Steve Kerr in 15 seasons: 726 3-pointers made.
  • Larry Bird in 13 seasons: 649 3-pointers made.
  • Dirk Nowtizki in 15 seasons: 1,340 3 pointers made (Steph is almost halfway there in four seasons).
  • Dennis Scott in 14 seasons: 1,214 3-pointers made (Steph is on pace to surpass him in eight seasons).

The NBA record for most 3-pointers made in one season is 269. Ray Allen accomplished the feat during the 2005-06 regular season. Stephen Curry has made 268 this year and has one game left to break the record.

While we’re here, check out some more numbers. Make what you want of this info:

  • Steve Nash through his first four seasons: 237 games, 7.2 points per game and 3.8 assists per game on 43.8 percent field goal shooting and 40.2 percent 3-point shooting.
  • Stephen Curry through his first four seasons: 257 games, 19.2 points per game and 6.1 assists per game on 46.6 percent field goal shooting and 44.7 percent 3-point field goal shooting.

Have a look at the true shooting percentages (all three shooting figures combined into one) of some signature shooters in their fourth year in the league:

No matter how we slice it, Curry is having one of the best shooting seasons of all time and displaying all of his point guard skills in the process. The Warriors have themselves a gem.
